Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev on Saturday sustained serious injuries after being allegedly attacked by irate locals near Banpur block in Khordha district.

The incident occured after the suspended BJD leader allegedly plowed his vehicle into a crowd injuring several people.

Over 10 persons, including two police personnel, have been injured after being hit by the vehicle of Jagdev, alleged locals. Subsequently, the vehicle of Jagdev was vandalised by the irate people who were present in large number near Banpur block office for the chairperson election.

As per reports, Jagdev was on his way to Banpur block for the chairperson election. There was a heavy rush in front of the block office but Jagdev allegedly drove his vehicle into the crowd injuring several people including one woman cop on duty.

All the injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital. Jagdev has been also been admitted to Banpur hospital in a critical condition and is likely to be shifted to another hospital, said sources.

Locals slammed Jagdev for his irresponsible driving and blamed him for the unsavoury incident.

“Around 500 to 600 people were assembled in front of the block office for the chairman election. However, Jagdev rammed his vehicle into the crowd in an inebriated condition and injured many of them. Some of the injured are in critical condition. This kind of hooliganism and irresponsible behaviour is not expected from an MLA,” said a local resident.
