In a bid to inculcate leadership skills and democratic values among children, a journalism workshop was conducted in Koraput on Saturday.

The workshop was conducted by social organisation ‘Ekata’ in which as many as 50 children from Dasmantpur and Borigumma blocks in the district participated.

As per the social organisation, journalism has a great role to play in developing leadership skills, creating awareness of one’s own rights as well as others' and infusing democratic values in the children.

“In the workshop, children were taught how to express themselves and apply lessons from their study in their daily life through journalism. Since last few years, journalism has played a great role in making children aware about various issues and shaping their career,” said Jagannath Mishra, a senior member of the organisation.

Moreover, some write-ups by the children on different issues like education, environment, health and culture affecting their lives in the villages have been selected for a magazine to be published soon.

“The workshop was really a great learning curve for us. It was also fun as well. We learnt how to express ourselves through special skills in speaking and writing,” said a child journalist Ranjita Muduli.
