The Central government on Thursday said it has not received the resolution adopted by the Odisha government for the creation of the Legislative Council or Vidhan Parishad.

Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju said this in a written reply to unstarred questions raised by BJD MP Prasanna Acharya in the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, Acahaya wanted to know whether the Odisha Legislative Assembly had at any point of time adopted a unanimous resolution for the creation of Legislative Council. And whether the Central government would move to create such a council as per the provisions under Article 169 of the Constitution?

The BJD MP also sought details about the states that are already having Legislative Councils and those which have adopted resolutions for the creation of Legislative Councils in their respective states.

The Union Minister informed that six states, namely Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telengana and Uttar Pradesh have Legislative Councils. Assam, Rajasthan and West Bengal are the states that have adopted the resolution for the creation of Legislative Council.

Union Minister Rijiju said the government had not received any resolution adopted by the Odisha Legislative Assembly for creation of a Legislative Council. He further mentioned it that the Central government is seeking information from the Odisha government with respect to adoption of the resolution.
