Car swept away in canal in Sambalpur, 2 bodies recovered

In an unfortunate incident, at least two persons died as a car was swept away in a canal at Kuchinda area in Sambalpur on Sunday. 

The deceased have been identified as Tapas Nayak and his brother-in-law Pratap Patel. 

As per reports, Nakatipal canal in Kuchinda was flowing above 2-3 feet high due to the heavy flood in the river system in Sambalpur triggered by incessant rain. 

The car in which the duo was travelling got washed away while they were trying to cross the canal on Saturday evening.

Locals informed the local police and fire services personnel immediately after the incident following which they rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. 

However, the car was recovered from the canal today. The bodies of the missing persons were also found inside the vehicle. 

A pal of gloom descended in the area following the tragic incident.
