20-year-old Odia girl, Riya Swain, living in Palsana in Gujarat’s Surat fought off three burglers to save her family from attack on Friday.

As per reports, Riya was studying in the bedroom of her house on Friday when three burglars broke into her house at around 10.30 am. They demanded to hand over cash and all the valuables. The miscreants, wielding knives, also threatened to kill Riya and her sister who was sleeping in the same room.

However, Riya did not panic and took on the miscreants in a bid to save herself and her sister from attack. She sustained sustained deep cut on the palm during her valiant fight with the intruders.

Her bravery not only made the miscreants flee from the spot, but it also invited applause from all quarters in the area.

Bharti Baburam Swain, Riya’s mother said, “We woke up in the other room to the shout of my daughters. Riya got injured when she grabbed the knife the miscreants were using to attack her and pushed them away. Though I was scared for her life, I am proud of her.”

Riya told OTV, “I am not saying I was not scared, but the safety of my family was my priority. So I decided to confront the miscreants. My self defence training during school days came to my help.”
