The roof of the Samaleswari Temple near the daily market in Bolangir town collapsed on Friday triggering panic in the area. However, there was no reports of any casualties in the incident.

As per reports, just before the evening 'alati', of the presiding deity, the ceiling of the temple gave way all of a sudden bringing down tonnes of rubble into the temple complex.

Fortunately, the servitors and devotees present in the temple at the time of mishap managed to escape from the shrine in due time.

Even though the exact reasons what triggered the collapse of the temple roof is unknown, it is believed that the old structure which was already in a dilapidated condition might have collapsed accidentally.

Earlier the temple servitors, devotees and even the local residents had sought the attention of the district administration on multiple occasions seeking restoration of the damages to the roof of the shrine.

They have alleged that despite sincere pleas, no ameliorative measures were taken by the authorities, informed sources.

Following the incident, the irate servitors and devotees staged a road blockade in the town citing the administration's apathy as the reason behind such a misfortunate incident.

Later, District Deputy Collector Lambodar Dharua visited the temple to inspect the situation.
