The body of a youth migrant worker Sadashiv Das, from Khadalasahi village under Kendrapara’s Pattamundai Police limits, was safely brought back to Odisha from Qatar on Monday following Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President, Baijayant Panda’s intervention.

The mortal remains of Sadashiv reached the Bhubaneswar airport on Monday morning. Panda paid his last respect to the departed at the airport before the body was taken to his village in Pattamundai.

As per reports, 26-year-old Sadashiv went to Qatar approximately nine months back to work in a private organisation. On December 25 he reportedly sustained serious injuries in an accident at workplace and later died.

However, legalities and international norms prohibited his family in Pattamundai to claim his body. It was then Jay Panda stepped in and wrote to the Indian Consulate in Qatar urging to expedite the process and had over the body to the family.

Sarbeswar Das, the father of Sadashiv said, “My son died of an accident in Qatar. I received the news from onje of his friends in Qatar. Thereafter we requested Baijayant Panda to help us in getting back the body of my son and he made it possible in the quickest possible time.”

“We will ever be grateful to Panda Sir for his quick response and humanitarian gesture,” Das added.

Speaking to reporters, Panda said, “There are a lot of other migrants from Odisha working in other states and foreign countries as well. I would like to extend my thanks to the External Affairs Ministry, the Indian Ambassador in Qatar and his team for expediting the process and helping the body of the departed reach his parents quickly.”

The last rites of the deceased will be performed at his ancestral village.
