As many as three persons were injured after two boats with more than 60 passengers on board collided head-on in Chilika on Sunday.

According to reports, one of the boats en route to Janhikuda collided with another boat coming from the opposite direction near Mahisa under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district.

“A speeding boat from the Satapada ghat collided at a high intensity with our boat leaving at least two passengers on board along with the driver of the boat injured. Several bikes were also damaged in the collision,” claimed one of the passengers.

Meanwhile, the driver and the two passengers, who were injured in the mishap, were admitted to Nuapada CHC (Community Health Center) after the boats safely reached the shore at Satapada. 

On September 4, at least two people died after a boat capsized in Chilika lake. Reportedly, as many as 13 tourists from Puri town area had gone to Kalijaikuda, an islet located 3 km from Gambharigaon, for a picnic. 

While they were returning in the evening, the mishap occurred at Kalijaikuda. Though locals immediately launched a rescue operation and saved 10 people, two tourists lost their lives.
