Odisha chief secretary Suresh Mohapatra on Monday directed authorities to ensure power supply to all urban and rural areas in view of upcoming board examinations of students and prevailing severe heatwave conditions in the State.

While addressing a high-level meeting, the chief secretary reviewed the power situation in the backdrop of rise in the electricity demand in the State.

Senior officials of the State government said that the present power deficit is a temporary situation. At present, the peak power demand has gone up by almost 10 percent due to excess heatwave conditions.

“The chief secretary has directed DISCOMs not do any load regulation during day time. OHPC has also been asked to ramp up generation to meet the deficit during day time,” tweeted Energy department.

As per the Energy department, Mahanadi Coal will be asked to supply adequate coal to the IPPs and improve the quality of coal supplied to Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC).
