Alleging police have become a puppet in the hands of the government, the Bhubaneswar district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers on Monday staged a protest in front of Laxmi Sagar police station in Bhubaneswar.

They demanded release of one Rakesh Jena, brother of their party’s female corporator candidate. Jena was arrested on Friday in connection with a group clash occurred in Laxmi Sagar area.

“The police are taking the government’s side. My request to the CP and DCP is to give us justice and release Rakesh Jena. We will continue our demonstration till his release,” said BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan.

On last Friday, the husband, brother-in-law and brother of a BJP’s female corporator candidate were attacked in the very front of the police station.

“Even though Shikhar Jena, Shreedhar Jena and Dillip Jena had attacked the corporator candidate’s brother Rakesh Jena, her husband and brother-in-law, the police didn’t arrest them. They have instead detained Rakesh Jena,” alleged Pradhan.
