The student wing of the Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangha has called for a peaceful Odisha bandh on Tuesday demanding justice for BJB College girl student Ruchika Mohanty who died by suicide due to alleged ragging by seniors.

Vehicles will go off the road due to the protests. Also, plying of trains will be affected due to the bandh. The organisation has also urged businessmen to down their shutters as part of the protest.

Meanwhile, the Congress, several business establishments and social outfits have extended their support to the outfit.

General Secretary of the outfit Manwar Ali said, “We will observe bandh adopting non-violence as our medium and we are urging everyone to come forward and extend their support for the noble cause. Those who will not support us in the bandh, they are with faulty government that has failed to give justice to the victim even after so many days of her death.”

He further said, “Irrespective of profession, gender, creed and colour I would like to request intellectuals, youth mass, students and women to join the protest so that we can give justice to Ruchika.”

Farmer leader Akhaya Kumar had earlier called upon Odisha people to make the ‘Odisha Bandh’ successful.

Akhaya Kumar said, “Naba Nirman Samiti and Naba Nirman Krushak Sanghathan have called upon political outfits and every responsible citizen of Odisha to come forward and raise voice against state government’s failure to give justice to the victim.”

Joining the outfit Ruchika’s mother Bidyut Prava Mohanty said, “I would like to urge every citizen of Odisha with folded hands to come forward and the join the Odisha Bandh on July 19 so that my daughter will get justice.”
