A young tourist from West Bengal died after reportedly falling from a three-storey hotel in the pilgrim city of Puri on Thursday. 

The deceased, identified as Chaini Sarkar, hailed from North 24 Parganas district of the neighbouring state. It was alleged that Chaini fell off the terrace of the hotel at around 2 pm yesterday. 

He was immediately shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital. Later, he was referred to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar after his health condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed. 

Sanjib Sarkar, the father of the deceased has filed a police complaint at Sea Beach Police Station alleging his son was murdered. As per his complaint, Chaini’s friends planned to eliminate him and therefore brought him to Puri to execute the crime.

“After the incident, the family members of the deceased were informed. Later, they arrived today and alleged in their complaint that the youth's friends killed him. Based on the complaint, we have launched an investigation," said Mihir Panda, Additional Superintendent of Police, Puri.

"A team of forensic experts have visited the spot and the further investigation is underway. We can establish the actual cause of the death after further inquiry,” Panda added.
