Barred from playing game on smartphone, Class 10 girl ends life in Balasore

A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday after she was barred from using her mobile phone by her mother.

The deceased has been identified as Gitanjali Dalai. She was a student of Class X and daughter of a farmer, Ashwini Kumar Dalai from Balikuti village in Balasore district.

As per reports, Gitanjali consumed poison after she was scolded by her mother for playing game on the smartphone.

According to Gitanjali’s relatives, she was often barred by her parents from playing game on mobile phone and asked to concentrate on her studies.

“Gitanjali’s parents often confiscate the smartphone from her. However, the girl used to threaten them to commit suicide,” said Gitanjali’s uncle.

On Tuesday morning, the girl was busy playing games on the mobile phone when her mother snatched it away from her. Enraged by this, the girl secluded herself in another room and consumed poison.

She was rushed to Baliapal hospital. However, doctors declared her brought dead. Police sent the body for post-mortem and registered an unnatural death case in this connection.
