Ahead of Panchayat Elections in Odisha, Sarpanch of Balakati Panchayat under Aul block in Kendrapara district has alleged murderous attack against him late on Sunday Night reportedly over political rivalry.

The sarpanch has been identified as Dibakar Nayak.

According to reports, some unidentified miscreants allegedly poured petrol on Nayak's house and set it on fire.

Luckily, the sarpanch and his family members evaded the attack as they had gone to attend a relative's function last night.

However, all belongings and valuables worth lakhs of rupees in his house were gutted in the blaze.

Reportedly, Nayak's house was under construction, therefore he along with his family was staying at their thatched house near the Nagapada Thakurani Temple. But, in their absence, somebody had torched their house.

Nayak meanwhile has alleged that opposition parties were trying to kill him over political rivalry as panchayat elections are scheduled next month.

"Due to our luck, we had not slept yesterday in our house otherwise we would have been killed. By God's grace we are safe," said an anxious Naik.

He said the opposition has always been targeting him but he is not afraid of them as he is on the path of righteousness.

Nayak has also filed a complaint in connection with the matter at Aul police station.

A probe has been initiated over the case.
