Family members and relatives of a minor girl, who recently went missing in Astaranga, staged a protest in front of the local police station on Saturday alleging police inaction against the abductors.

According to reports, the minor girl from Astaranga area in Puri district went missing on September 5. Her family members lodged a complaint at the Nimapada police station alleging that the girl had been abducted by some miscreants from a nearby village.

However, police are still clueless about the girl’s whereabouts.

“We had lodged a complaint immediately after the abduction of our niece. Nearly three weeks have passed thereafter, but police have made no progress in their investigation so far,” alleged the victim’s uncle.

“We don’t understand the motive behind the police inaction. They have not yet taken any step to trace our missing child. We have completely lost our faith in them. We will continue our protest indefinitely until they give us a written assurance to trace the girl at the earliest,” he said.

However, Nimapada SDPO Debashis Mishra sought to brush aside the allegation made by the family members.

“Our investigation to trace the missing minor girl has been intensified. We have tracked the phone numbers of few suspects with whom the girl might have eloped. We have also raided a few places. We are hopeful that we will able to trace the girl soon,” said Mishra.
