A family court in Cuttack on Friday levied penalty of Rs 5,000 each on MP-actor Anubhav Mohanty and his actress-wife Varsha Priyadarshini for deliberately delaying court proceedings in the marital discord case.

The court accepted petitions filed by the estranged couple over modification in marriage venue and witness hearing, but levied penalty of Rs 5,000 each on them.

The court came down heavily on the estranged couple for deliberately delaying court proceedings and levied the fine.

The court also condemned Varsha’s repeated absence during the hearing. While, Anubhav managed to be present during hearings, the court noticed that Varsha and her lawyer often neglected and stayed out of hearings.

It also lambasted Anubhav for error on his wedding venue in court papers. While the couple had married in Bhubaneswar, he had mentioned Delhi as his wedding venue.

“The court would have reached a conclusion by now if Varsha had been present during the hearings and Anubhav did not make error on his wedding venue,” the court ruled and levied the fine for the deliberate delay.

Earlier, there were reports that the Orissa High Court is likely to order the final judgment in the marital dispute case on September 15. A bench headed by justice KR Mohapatra had ruled that the final judgement in connection with the case will be passed on September 15.

Earlier, the SDJM court had also directed Varsha to vacate Anubhav’s parental home in Nandi Sahi of Cuttack. Challenging the SDJM court’s order, the actress had moved Cuttack District Judge Court which ordered an interim stay on SDJM Court’s order.

Later, Varsha again filed a memo and informed the District Judge Court that she would vacate her husband’s house in 30 days. The SDJM court had earlier asked the MP to pay a sum of Rs 30,000 on or before 10th of every month to Varsha for her accommodation elsewhere.

Later, Anubhav Mohanty paid Rs 30,000 to the former for arranging alternative accommodation without delay.

It may be recalled that, Anubhav and Varsha, who took their reel life love story forward and tied the knot in 2014, have been fighting the legal battle for divorce.
