  • Drugs sold under trade name of Max Relief Healthcare Private Ltd seized

As many as 300 strips of medicines unsuitable for human use and manufactured by a dubious firm were seized from two stores in the Steel City of Rourkela on Saturday.

The crackdown came close on the heels of the seizure of huge quantities of fake anti-covid drugs 'Favipiravir' in Cuttack by the State Drugs Control squad.

Three drugs stores were raided in Rourkela by a team of drugs squad following allegations of sale of spurious drugs. Bharat Pharmaceutical in GT Lane, Medicare in Oram Pada and BR Pharmaceutical near Indo English School were raided by a team led by drugs inspector Anjan Kumar Sahu.

During the raid, more than 300 strips of duplicate medicine were seized from the two stores. The drugs which were being sold under the trade name of Max Relief Healthcare Private Ltd have been banned in the market.

“We examined stocks in three medicine stores and found the drugs manufactured by Max Relief Healthcare Private Ltd in two stores. As it is an illegal company, we will send the drugs for laboratory test,” the drugs inspector said.

Meanwhile, the State Health department has ordered a probe into the seizure of spurious antiviral Favipiravir drugs, which were earlier prescribed for Covid-19 treatment.

Additional chief secretary of Health Department PK Mohapatra said the Drugs Controller and Police will carry out a joint investigation into the transaction of spurious medicines and submit a report.

The probe team will also find out the source and destination of the fake consignment.
