As many as 34 smart parks will be built in Cuttack under the project with construction work for the same already been started at CDA, informed the CMC authorities.

The CMC officials have opined that while social distancing is being encouraged to prevent the spread of Coronavirus infection, such smart parks will help manage crowd better while also providing the much-needed refreshment to the public. Besides, the park will provide children, who were locked indoors due to the outbreak of the pandemic, an opportunity to play and enjoy.

“We are encouraging the neighbourhood parks concept. We have planned to set up small parks in different areas of Cuttack so that people of each ‘sahi’ can have access to their own for exercising and walking. This will also help them to visit the parks easily during shutdown or when there is restriction on movement to distant places,” opined CMC Commissoner Ananya Das.

Out of the 34 smart parks, 14 will be built inside the silver city while others will be set up in different areas which fall under the jurisdiction of the CMC, said reports.

A resident of Cuttack City, Kedar Behera said, “I welcome the step of the CMC to built smart parks in the city. Such small parks will enable the children to play and enjoy. It is good news for the parents also who were finding it difficult to manage their children at homes amid the ongoing pandemic.”

“Given the pandemic situation, if parks increase in the city, the number of people in parks will decrease and children will get the scope to play outdoor games. Smart parks in neighbourhood will also help the elder people, who cannot go long distances, to exercise and relax. This is definitely a constructive decision of the CMC,” said a local of Cuttack.
