In yet another blow to CPI (Maoists), three of its cadres, including two Area Committee Members (ACM), from Chhattisgarh surrendered their arms before the Odisha Police on Monday.

The ultras, Lakhma Madvi alias Lakhan, Ganga Madkam aka Nitesh and Soka Sodi aka Nabin, surrendered before the Director General (DG) of Police, Abhay in Bhubaneswar.

Senior Odisha Police officials said that the trio was actively involved in several operations in the Mahanadi Area Committee and were give the task to expand base in Kandhamal district.

The ultras were planning to expand their base and revive the north Mahanadi corridor which had suffered a major jolt since 2018 following the death of Badal alias Shankar Majhi and surrender of Kunu Dehury.

The three Maoists were part of the Kodanga-Mahanadi-Sanjukta area committee operating under the KKBN division of Odisha State Committee of the CPI- Maoists. Both Laxan and Ganga also carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh each on their head.

“The three Maoists from Chhattisgarh decided return to the main stream after seeing the developmental works undertaken by the Odisha government,” said DGP Abhay. Abhay further said that the presence of the Left Wing extremists is declining in Odisha. “I again appeal to the Maoists to surrender. They will be rehabilitated as per the policy of the State government,” he added.
