Two youths have been left battling for life after they came in contact with a livewire during an eviction drive by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday. The incident has sparked outrage as the authorities concerned had not snapped electricity supply during the eviction drive.

Without any prior notice, the CMC officials arrived in the morning at Rehman Square and bulldozed the houses. Electric wires passing over the houses were snapped in the process. Meanwhile, the two youths who were in the area came in contact with the wire and sustained critical burn injuries.

The two have been admitted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.

“The CMC officials are behaving like goons. They haven’t served any notice for eviction. All of a sudden, they came at around 9am and bulldozed all the houses. They had not even cut the power supply that led to the mishap. MY son was the sole breadwinner of the family. Who will feed my family,” questioned one of the victims’ father.

“I’m handicapped and my son was taking care of me. How will I survive now,” he said as tears continued to flow from his eyes.
