In a weird yet surprising occurrence, a 94-year-old Iranian man, nicknamed as the ‘dirtiest man in the world’, passed away after he took bath for the first time in several decades.

As per reports, the nonagenarian, Amou Haji died on Sunday in the village Dejgah. The IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) reported that Amou Haji, not his real name, but an endearing nickname given to elderly people, didn’t take shower for several decades fearing that he would fall sick. However, a few months ago, for the first time, some villagers took him to a bathroom to wash.

For most of his life, Haji lived in isolation in an open brick hut that the villagers constructed when they found him sleeping in a hole in the ground, the New York reported.

As per the locals, Haji’s eccentricity was due to ‘emotional setbacks’ during his youth time. In 2014, the Tehran Times reported that Haji also avoided fresh food. Instead, he opted for rotted porcupines and smoked a pipe of animal excrement.

Reportedly, a short documentary film, ‘The Strange Life of Amou Haji’ was made about his life in 2013.
