The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has said that Civil Services (Main) examination, 2021 will be conducted as per schedule from Friday.

Besides, the Commission has asked states to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to candidates or the examination functionaries in their movement for the exam, PTI reported.

The UPSC Mains exam has been scheduled for January 7, 8, 9, 15, and 16. As per the result of the exam, which comprises nine papers, candidates will be called for personal interview.

Meanwhile, according to Live Law, a petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking postponement of the Mains examination in view of the rising cases of Covid-19 and the spread of the new Omicron variant.

"The matter was mentioned today by Advocate Anushree Kapadia before a Division Bench led by Chief Justice DN Patel, and permission is granted for urgent listing tomorrow," it added.

Stating that the conduct of the exam in the present situation will put their lives at risk, candidates who are set to appear for the Mains exam have filed the petition in the Court.

Candidates have been demanding postponement of the exam by at least two weeks. They claim that as many candidates will have to travel from different cities to exam centres, it will make them vulnerable to the virus.
