R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss USA 2022, was crowned as the new Miss Universe in a glittering ceremony in New Orleans, Louisiana. Miss Venezuela and Miss Dominican Republic emerged as runner-ups.

Gabriel, 28, is a fashion designer from Houston, Texas. Her mother is American and her father is Filipino. According to competition officials, she is the first Filipino American to win Miss USA.

“She attributes her opportunistic outlook to her upbringing immersed in the arts, sports, and travel. As a high-school volleyball player who pivoted to fashion, she quickly fell in love with constructing designs with fabrics and textiles at the young age of 15. At the University of North Texas, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design with a Minor in Fiber in 2018. She is currently CEO of her sustainable clothing line, R’Bonney Nola,” the official website of Miss Universe states.

Meanwhile, India’s Divita Rai, who made it to the top 16, missed out on succeeding the 70th Miss Universe, Harnaaz Sandhu.

India's Harnaaz Sandhu, who won the beauty pageant title in 2022, crowned the new Miss Universe in a grand event. Harnaaz won the pageant and brought back the crown to India 21 years after Lara Dutta won it in 2000.

The outgoing Miss Universe 2021, Harnaaz Sandhu, while taking her final walk on stage before crowning Miss Universe 2022, paid a tribute to her predecessors - former Miss Universes Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen.

Harnaaz wore a black and white gown with digital prints of the faces of Lara and Sushmita from their winning moments. She proudly flaunted them as she sashayed down the ramp during her final walk.
