The much awaited air health service called Mukhyamantri Vayu Swasthya Seva took off in Nabarangpur district on Friday.

A special chopper carrying a hand-picked panel of expert physicians from varied fields landed at a helipad in Nabarangpur district Friday morning.

The team comprised urologist Prof Dr Datteswar Hota, gastroenterologist Prof Dr Chittaranjan Panda, cardiologist Prof Dr Biswajit Das, Prof Dr Bana Bihari MIshra and Dr Khageswar Rout.

The team proceeded straight to the Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) where they catered to several registered patients. Those apart, critical operations were also performed on five patients.

“We are carrying out screening for the fresh batch of patients. Discussion will be held with the team members on next course of action for those found eligible to receive treatments from the team,” said CDMO of Nabarangpur DHH, Dr Kaliprasad Behera.

Meanwhile, even as the beginning of the air health service brought cheer on few faces, patients suffering from heart ailments were a dejected lot due to the unavailability of an Echocardiography machine at the DHH.

Registering his displeasure, Bhikari Charan Sahu said, “I am a heart patient. I along with a few others had come to the DHH with lot of hope. But the absence of an Echocardiography (ECG) machine at the DHH left us dejected.”

“The doctors visiting from Vishakhapatnam to Jeypore usually carry a portable Echo machine with them. If the DHH had at least such a machine, the heart patients could have received treatment from the experts,” opined Sahu.
