Odisha government on toes as Dengue cases spike; schools asked to create awareness

With the onset of the rainy season, Odisha is witnessing a spike in Dengue cases. The state government has convened a high-level meeting led by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja to discuss preventive measures.

With the rainy season setting in, a spike in Dengue cases is being witnessed in the state. Keeping the increasing number of positive cases in view, the Odisha govt has asked all the concerned departments to be on their toes and take steps to keep the cases in check. 

To discuss the situation in the state, a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was convened. The secretaries of all the departments attended it. In the meeting, the secretaries have been asked to take measures to prevent mosquito breeding.

Informing about the slew of measures taken to curb the Dengue and Malaria cases, Public Health Director Dr Nilakantha Mishra said, “The School and Mass Education Department has asked the headmasters of the schools to create awareness among the students. They have been asked to make sure that students in hostels are using mosquito nets. They have also been asked to see to it that water shouldn’t stagnate near their schools and there should be regular fogging.”

“This year’s number is less compared to the last year’s number during this time. From January 1 to date, 35,470 tests have been done. Of them, 488 positive Dengue cases have been reported. Khordha district has reported the highest 130 cases,” he added.
