Dr Sandip Mishra, a scientist working at the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, has brought glory to the State by achieving a major breakthrough by discovering medicine for breast cancer, giving a huge relief to such patients.

Even stage-3 cancer patients can be treated successfully with this medicine.

According to Dr Mishra, the tumor suppressor gene in breast cancer has been discovered. It will make a huge difference in treating patients with breast cancer. It is the outcome of a research that continued for as long as 20 years.

After the successful trial of the medicine on rats, the Central government has given permission for its human trial.

The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India has been funding the research.

If everything goes as planned, this medicine will be available in the market in the next two to three years. The most relieving aspect of this development is that the medicine will be within the affordable range.

Dr Mishra’s discovery has been published in several famous science as well as Nature Group of Journals.

Notably, Dr Mishra is a lifetime advisory member of Singapore Academic of Sciences and a member of the American Association for Cancer Research.
