Cuttack: A dedicated ward for treatment of Black Fungus (Mucormycosis) infection cases was opened at the Sri Ram Chandra Bhanja Medical College & Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack on Friday.

As per the information provided by the Emergency Officer of SCBMCH, Bhubanananda Moharana, the 30 bedded special ward has been opened at the upper floor of the ENT department.

The ward was opened after two medically ill patients in the hospital were suspected to have been infected with black fungus.

As per reports, samples of the woman and a male patient are believed to have been sent for examination. The two patients suffered from COVID19 and had recovered.

However, now they are suspected to have been infected with black fungus.

The special medical team constituted at SCBMCH for the treatment of Mucormycosis consists of senior doctors from the department of eye, ENT, medicine, microbiology and dental diseases. The team is headed by the ENT department chief professor Dr Subrata Behera.
