Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to gangster Raja Acharya in connection with the abduction of a Bhubaneswar-based Jyote Motors employee. According to sources, following the court order, the gangster is likely to be released from jail.

Acharya's lawyer said that his client has got bail in all other cases pending against him making his release from jail easier.

There are as many as 40 cases pending against Acharya.

Following Acharya's bail, Gitanjali Panda, wife of late judo coach Biranchi Das, in whose murder case the gangster was arrested, has said that she will seek security from the Commissionerate Police.

Panda has said that she will request police to provide a personal security officer for herself and her family.

"When my husband was murdered in front of me 10 years back, it's natural that I will have fear. My security was earlier removed after Raja had said that he is not a threat to my family. I would definitely ask police to provide security not only for me but also for my family," said Gitanjali Panda.

Acharya was granted bail by the Supreme Court last year in the Biranchi Das murder case, however, the Orissa High Court had turned down the bail plea of the gangster in a kidnapping- cum-extortion case of 2010.

Justice JP Das of the High Court had denied bail to Acharya in the kidnapping case. Raja had moved the High Court for bail challenging a trial court order.
