Previously, if a mobile phone costing Rs 7,000 was imported with a BCD of 20%, the importer had to pay Rs 1,400 (20% of Rs 7,000) as tax.
With the new reduced BCD of 15%, the tax would now be Rs 1,050 (15% of Rs 7,000). This reduction makes it cheaper for importers to bring mobile phones into the country.
This move is aimed at benefiting phone users by potentially reducing the prices of imported mobile phones and chargers.
