Elon Musk, the richest person in the world and the new head of Twitter, published the first chapter of his "expose" titled "The Twitter Files" on Saturday. The Twitter Files part 1 shows the social media platform's internal communication with US President Joe Biden's campaign team during the 2020 US Elections. It was published by independent journalist Matt Taibbi.

Twitter Files Part 1
The exposé explains what led Twitter to censor the information regarding President Biden's son Hunter's laptop. In a series of tweets titled "The Twitter Files, Part One: How and Why Twitter Blocked the Hunter Biden Laptop Story," it was claimed that Twitter had taken "extraordinary steps" to bury the New York Post report on Biden's secret emails from his laptop in October 2020. The business removed the story's links from the platform and warned users that the content might be "unsafe" in order to deter them from using it. Twitter even prevented direct message transmission using a feature that was "previously reserved for extreme cases, such as child pornography."

Internal Conflicts

Not all Twitter employees agreed with limiting the story's reach. Caroline Strom, one of Twitter's few remaining executives, expressed concerns about the reasoning behind the stringent measures. Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's former policy head, informed her that the actions were taken due to the company's policy regarding "hacking materials.

Vijaya Gadde Played a 'Key Role'
Taibbi, the author of Twitter Files Part 1, made some bold claims against former policy head Vijaya Gadde. He claimed she was instrumental in the decision-making process. Ironically, Taibbi suggests that many decisions were made without the knowledge of then-CEO Jack Dorsey.

It was also revealed that the decision was made at the "highest levels of the company," but former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was not aware of it. Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's former head of legal, policy, and trust, also played a key role, according to Taibbi.

What was the Hunter Biden laptop story?
Hunter introduced Joe Biden to a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm while he was vice president, according to the New York Post in 2020. Less than a year later, Biden pressed Ukrainian government officials to fire a prosecutor who was investigating the energy firm. Hunter Biden was also revealed to be on the company's board of directors, with a reported monthly salary of $50,000.

Twitter Files Part 2
Elon Musk has promised that this is only the beginning of a lengthy series. The second instalment of the Twitter Files will be released in the coming days. There's no way of knowing what's in the next section. Vijaya Gadde has yet to provide her side of the story.
