Ahead of Snana Purnima at the Srimandir in Puri, Daitapati servitors on Friday entered the shrine. As part of the Snana Purnima preparation, they will perform ‘Bahuta Kanta’ ritual today.

For ‘Senapata Lagi’ and ‘Bahuta Kanta’ rituals, ahead of Snana Purnima and Rath Yatra, a ‘Baula’ tree at Sakhigopal area was first measured and then cut. Then the log, measuring eight feet long and three feet girth, was placed in a bullock cart and a piece of pata cloth (silken cloth) was put on it. Then the cart left for Puri.

The cart reached Puri on Wednesday night. The log was kept at Dolabedi corner. As per the fixed measures, the log will be sawn to prepare Senapata and Bahuta for Lord Jagannath. Senapata and Bahuta will be tied to the back and arms of Lord Jagannath and then covered with silken clothes.

For these rituals, darshan for the devotees will be suspended from 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

Notably, Senapata Lagi and Bahutakanta rituals are performed at the time of pahandi of the deities which takes place for Snana Jatra, Gundicha Jatra, Adapa Mandapa Bije Jatra and Niladree Bije Jatra.
