Suna Besha: Lord Jagannath, His Siblings to dazzle in golden attire in front of Puri Srimandir today
After enacting divine ‘leela’ on the Janmabedi, the Holy Trinity—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—have now returned and are stationed in front of the Singhadwar (Lion’s Gate) of the Puri Srimandir.
The three majestic chariots—Taladhwaja of Lord Balabhadra, Darpadalana of Devi Subhadra, and Nandighosa of Lord Jagannath—stand tall, awaiting one of the most anticipated rituals of Rath Yatra—the Suna Besha.
This afternoon, after the completion of the Madhyahna Dhupa rituals, the deities will be adorned with golden ornaments in the spectacular Suna Besha. Mahaprabhu Jagannath along with his siblings will bless lakhs of devotees in this rare golden attire atop the chariots.
Decked in intricately crafted gold and gem-studded ornaments, the deities will sparkle under the evening lights. The divine darshan in Suna Besha will continue till 11 PM tonight.
Among all the unique attires (Besha) of Lord Jagannath, the Suna Besha—also called Badatadau Besha—holds special significance. It is observed once a year, exclusively on the chariots during Rath Yatra, making it an extremely rare and cherished sight for devotees.
To witness this golden spectacle, lakhs of pilgrims have gathered in Puri. The administration has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth and disciplined darshan. Devotees will be allowed to see the Lords’ Suna Besha from behind barricades.
On Monday, Adharapana ritual will be performed, and on Tuesday, the Holy Trinity will return to the sanctum sanctorum of Srimandir during the Niladri Bije ceremony.
