Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena on Monday said that power distribution company TPCODL has been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Rath Yatra in Puri.

At a time when complaints of unscheduled power cuts are pouring in from different parts of the state and the residents of Puri city and devotees were a worried lot, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena’s assurance came as a huge relief for them.

“TPCODL authorities have been directed to give special attention to Puri city. The Energy Department is also closely monitoring the situation. We hope there should be no problem,” said Jena.

Meanwhile, TPCODL clarified that systems are in place to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Rath Yatra.

“A total of 500 staff have been pressed into the service. The condition of underground 33 KV cables is perfect. For all the feeder pillar boxes at Grand Road, VIP Road and other important locations, preventive measures have been taken. For better inspection and co-ordination, experienced officers of Puri Division have been entrusted with the job of taking care of everything,” said CEO of TPCODL, Aravind Singh.

“The substations at Talabania, Sriramnagar, Kacheri, Baliapanda, Atharnala and Charinala have been connected with underground 33 KV cables. To avoid any kind of problem, maintenance of 14 substations of 33 KV and 11 KV has been carried out. Because of this, there will be uninterrupted power supply at important locations like Srimandir, Grand Road and the district headquarters hospital. This apart, we have our own motorcycle staff who are doing cable network patrolling,” he added.
