Ahead of world famous Rath Yatra in Puri, a mock drill was conducted on the grand road on Friday.

The main focus of the drill was to ensure prompt shifting of devotees needing medical attention due to several reasons like sunstroke, asphyxiation, or in a stampede-like situation.

As a part of the exercise, a green corridor was created and a dummy devotee was shifted in an ambulance to the hospital.

In the exercise, volunteer organisations, the Scouts and Guides, Ambulance staff, NDRF, and ODRAF teams participated. All were given training on how to create a Green Corridor.

“We have kept 25 to 30 beds with all facilities ready to face any emergency-like situation. Similarly, all wards are also ready. So we don’t think there would be any problems during the festival,” said Puri ADMO, Pranab Shankar Das.

Meanwhile, an App in dual language has also been launched.

“Devotees downloading the App can get all the information starting from daily rituals to the location of parking place and many more,” informed Puri Sub-Collector, Bhabataran Sahu.

Sharing details about the security arrangements, Puri SP, K Vishal Singh said, “A total of 180 platoons of forces will be deployed to maintain law and order. That apart, three companies of Rapid Action Force will be here to strengthen the cordon.”
