Lord Jagannath’s ‘Banakalagi' ritual, one of the most important rituals at Srimandir in Puri, will be performed by servitors today, on the 14th day of Anabasara ritual.
Narrating the significance of 'Banakalagi' ritual, senior servitor Binayak Das Mohapatra said a secret Anabasara ritual called ‘Sri Payara Muda’ is at its last stage.
“After completion of the ritual, Dutta Mohapatra servitors will enter the temple and perform ‘Khadi Lagi’ ritual. Thereafter, we will take ‘prasad’, called ‘Khadi Prasad’, to the palace and then the ‘Banakalagi’ ritual will be performed in phases. The rituals associated with ‘Pati Dian’ will also run concurrently” informed Das Mohapatra.
“After one day, there will be lord’s Naba Jauban Darshan and Ubha darshan. Devotees will be allowed to have a darshan of the deities on these two days. The ‘Parimanik Darshan’ will begin at 7 am. During this period, devotees can have darshan of the deities from a place very close to the altar by paying Rs 100. Then it will be stopped and darshan from ‘Bahara Katha’ will start. This will continue for two days. Then the lords will prepare completely for the Rath Yatra,” added Das Mohapatra.
Notably, ‘Banakalagi' ritual or ‘Shrimukha Sringara’ is a secret ritual and the Dutta Mohapatra servitors perform it. They do it by using natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Keshar, White and Black.
The youthful reappearance of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra after spending 14 days in Anabasara Ghara is called Naba Jauban Darshan.
On the other hand, the construction work of all the three chariots is also nearing completion.
Similarly, the Anabasara Darshan of Lord Alarnath at Alarnath temple in Brahmagiri entered its 13th day today. Today being Monday, a large number of devotees were seen waiting for darshan in long queues at the temple. After completion of rituals like ‘Mangala Alati’, ‘Abakash’ ‘Tadapalagi’ and ‘Gopala Ballabh Dhupa’, the public darshan started at 6 am
