Odisha soaks in Krishna Janmashtami celebrations

Odisha, the land of temples, witnessed devotees thronging popular Krishna and other temples to offer prayers and seek blessings of the Supreme on the auspicious day.

From early visit to temples to dahi handi celebrations, Odisha is now soaked in the devotion on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna who embodies divine love, wisdom, and righteousness.

Janmashtami is one of the popular Hindu festivals celebrated on the eighth (Ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). Odisha, the land of temples, witnessed devotees thronging popular Krishna and other temples to offer prayers and seek blessings of the Supreme on the auspicious day.

Elaborate arrangements have been made at various temples across the state including ISKCON temples to mark the special day. In Cuttack, special rituals were conducted since early morning at various religious shrines in different localities. People keep a fast on the auspicious day and offer prayers to Lord Krishna for the well-being of their families.

A huge rush of devotees was observed at various Krishna temples in different parts of the state including in Bhubaneswar. Devotees also thronged the ISKCON in large numbers.

In Puri, noted sand artist Sudarsan Pattanaik sculpted a magnificent sand art depicting Lord Krishna with a social message, “Kill the evil”.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, President Droupadi Murmu urged the people of the country to imbibe the teachings of Lord Shri Krishna and resolve to work for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda also extended wishes to the people on the auspicious occasion.
