With just a few hours left to step into the New Year 2023, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh has issued a set of norms for strict observance by the people of the Capital city during the celebrations.

The DCP, through a video, touched upon several guidelines instructing people to follow the guidelines without fail. Singh majorly focused on the traffic woes and the steps being taken to avoid any kind of untoward incident during the celebrations.

After two years of lull due to the pandemic, we are going to celebrate the New Year without any restrictions. Everyone is happy and excited for the New Year. However, amidst this celebratory mood, if one forgets to follow traffic rules, it will create chaos and put in danger the lives of others, said Singh.

"So, I request everyone to not over speed, drive within 50 kmph inside the city, do not drive in a drunken state. If you are going to a party, take your driver with you," said the DCP.

Below are a few guidelines laid out by the DCP to be followed strictly during the Zero Night and the New Year celebrations:

- Police personnel will be deployed at major check points in the city. So, people should not drive their vehicles in a drunken state.

- Those found violating the rules and driving in a drunken state or overspeeding will be put to task.

- Many outsiders will arrive in Bhubaneswar to participate in the Zero Night and New Year Celebrations. This apart, people will travel to picnic spots and other celebratory places. This will lead to severe traffic in the city. So, everyone needs to be patient and avoid using more vehicles.

- Major traffic congestion will be there at Janpath Junction, Nandankanan Road, Cuttack Road, Rasulgarh and Patia. So, follow DCP Bhubaneswar or DCP Traffic Twitter pages to get updates on traffic rules. All traffic-related information will be updated on these Twitter pages.

- People are urged to park their vehicles in the right place. Do not park your vehicles on the road. To control congestion, police towing team will keep a watch and tow vehicles that are found violating the rules.

- If you are in some emergency situation, please dial 112 and alert police to serve you all better.

Meanwhile, clubs and hotels in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are all decked up with glittering lights and mouth-licking foods to mark the Zero Night and the New Year celebrations.
