Lunar Eclipse: What to do and avoid during Chandra Grahan
Skygazers in India will witness a rare celestial event, full Chandra Grahan, tomorrow, November 8. This will be the last Total Lunar Eclipse to be visible in the country till 2025, even though Indians will be able to see partial and penumbral lunar eclipses during that time.
The specialty about this event is that it will be a Blood Moon Eclipse, beginning at 2.39 pm and concluding at 6.19 pm. People in India, especially the eastern regions, only will be able to witness the ending of both total and partial phases of lunar eclipse. But in other parts of the country, one can only watch the partial phase of the blood moon.
This year, since the Lunar Eclipse is coinciding on the Kartik Purnima, it has caused many changes in the schedule of rituals generally celebrated with much pomp and gaiety every year in Odisha.
Despite being an astronomical event, an eclipse has huge mythological and astrological relevance as per the Indian culture. The Hindu almanac suggests observance of several restrictions during such an event in order to prevent any ill-effects on life even though scientific community does not back such ideas.
