The holy ‘Fagu Dashami’ festival is being observed at Lord Jagannath temple in Puri in accordance with all the rituals.

According to Jagannath cult researcher Dr Naresh Das, on the tenth day of Falguna Shukla Paksha, ‘Fagu Dashami’ is observed at Srimandir.

“Dola jatra is being observed in Srimandir for seven days. Sridevi, Bhudevi and Dolagovinda participate in this jatra. The festival begins after the completion of madhyahna dhupa. The deities are then adorned with ‘Chacheri Besha’. They wear red clothes and gold ornaments,” informed Das.

“Since it’s a spring season festival, the deities are taken to Basant Gundicha Tota, or known as Jagannath Ballav Mutt. On the full moon day, the deities come to Dola Bedi. It is believed that those who have a darshan of Dolagovinda swinging in swing at Dola Bedi get rid of the cycle of rebirth. Till Chaturddashi, the deities are adorned with ‘Chacheri Besha’. But, on Dola Purnima, they are adorned with Raja Rajeswar Besha. Lord Jagannath and his siblings wear different gold ornaments," he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary has directed for the completion of the ongoing construction works or carry out temporary repair works at Dola Bedi and nearby areas before Dola Purnima.
