The Odisha government has called upon people to join global movement ‘Earth Hour 2022’ to raise awareness about climate change and energy conservation.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the people of the State to participate in the initiative and take a small step forward to nurture nature and keep planet Earth healthy for future generations.

"Let’s do our bit to save our Earth, our only home," Patnaik wrote in his Twitter message.

What Is Earth Hour?

For one hour from 8.30 pm on the last Saturday of March every year, individuals, communities and businesses all over the world come together to show a moment of solidarity and gesture of commitment towards a better planet Earth.

People switch off power to all non-essential electrical equipment for an hour to join the global community to mark the occasion.

Earth Hour is World Wildlife Fund's flagship global environmental movement. Started in Sydney as symbolic lights-out event in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organisations in more than 190 countries and territories to take tangible action for preservation of environment.

Now the movement has also gone way beyond the symbolic action of switching off power to become a catalyst for positive environmental impact, driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the people and collective action.
