The famous Magha Mela of Mahima cult at Joranda in Dhenkanal district began on Tuesday amid strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.

The event which will continue for three days has started in a low key manner.

As per the laid down guidelines, only Sadhus with two doses of Covid vaccines are being allowed into the Mela venue. Similarly, devotees and visitors from outside the district are also prohibited participation in the Mela.

Mahima Sadhu, Raghunath Das, said, “Sadhus across the world assemble here inspired by the Mahima cult. The sole purpose of the mela is world peace.”

The administration has restricted entertainment events like Opera show, movie and other cultural programmes as these activities attract huge congregations.

Traders from in and outside the State, who usually do a brisk business in the fair every year, have been barred to set up stalls this time. The local traders are however allowed to do business.

Magha Chaturdasi, Guru Purnima and Baba Purnima will be celebrated in the 3-day long mela. Praying for universal peace and prosperity, ‘Dipa Prajwalana’ (lighting of diyas) will be carried out during these three days.
