Odisha Capital Bhubaneswar is celebrating its 74th Foundation Day (Rajdhani Pratistha Diwas) at various places in the city on Wednesday.

The special occasion was celebrated at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar with Odisha Assembly speaker Surya Narayan Patro joining the event as the chief guest.

Students from various schools and colleges in the Capital city took part in civilian parades and various daredevil shows. The State administration and various organisations have also planned various activities to be held in the Capital City on this occasion.

The then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone for the city on April 13, 1948. It's one of modern India’s first planned cities, designed by German architect Otto Konigsberger in 1946. The city has come a long way since then.

The ‘Temple city’ with several ancient temples has gradually been transformed into ‘Smart City’ over the years with modern facilities like healthcare, education, road communication and illumination. The city is now being considered as the ‘Sports Capital’ of the country with several modern infrastructures and coaching facilities for various games. The city has also played host to a number of mega international competitions since the last few years.
