Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her fourth budget on Tuesday. In her budget, a lot of tinkering has been affected in the custom tariff rates. The FM has taxed high where that hurts Indian local industries and has gone liberal where the imports as inputs are critical for Indian industries to run the show.

The Savers - Food  Sector

  • Custom tariff brought down to 2,5 percent from 30 percent on cashew nuts, in shell.
  • From 30 to 20 percent on Soft dates (khayzur or wet dates), hard dates (chhohara or kharek dates)
  • Imported oranges, lemon, limes, fresh grapes, pears, quinces.
  • Long pepper tariff down to 30 percent from70 percent.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman has given a budget for women to rejoice.

  • FM Sitharaman has reduced the custom tariff to 10 percent from 25 percent on Women’s or girl’s night dresses and pyjamas, made of silk.
  • If the nighties and pyjamas are made of other textile materials, the tariff stands slashed at 20 percent from 20 percent.
  • Custom tariff down to 20 percent on Women’s or girl’s bathrobes, dressing gowns
    etc., of cotton, silk, other textiles and synthetic fibres.
  • The tariff stands slashed to 10 percent from 25 percent on women’s or girl’s bathrobes, dressing gowns etc., of wool or fine animal hair.
  • With tariffs down to 20 percent, women’s or girl’s overcoats, car-coats, raincoats, capes, cloaks and other similar articles, of wool and fine animal hair.
  • Custom tariff cut to 20 percent on women’s or girl’s blouses, shirts and shirt
    blouses, of silk or silk waste.
  • Skirts or divided skirts.
