  • The model forecasts of IMD, ECMWF and NCEP predict the return of wintry temperature to Odisha from the next weekend. ECMWF predicts a drop in minimum temperature to around 12 deg C on Nov 29 at many places in northern Odisha, especially in Keonjhar. Koraput, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh may record a minimum temperature of 14 deg C.

Even as Odisha has recorded a bountiful rain in November, except for four districts, the State is predicted to receive scattered rainfall for the next 78 hours. Wintry weather seems to take over Odisha from next weekend.

Rain is likely in night hours at some places around Berhampur in the Ganjam district today. (See the main image).

As per the latest model forecasts, Odisha will not be going to record any rainfall from the coming Friday onwards. There is a forecast of scattered rainfall across the State till Nov 23 (Tuesday). The forecasts further add that the mercury across the State will take a nip from coming Saturday (next weekend) when the minimum temperature is predicted to dip below 14 deg C in most parts of the State, except the coastal region.

Rainfall In Next 78 Hrs: Place And Time

Even as the satellite image suggests no looming clouds over the State skyline, all the lead Met models - IMD, NCEP, ECMWF and ACCESS G3 - have, however, made a forecast of scattered rainfall across the State on Nov 21, 22 and 23.

Nov 21 (Sunday): There is a rain forecast at around noon hours tomorrow at some places in the Koraput district and areas bordering Keonjhar and Sundargarh. At one or two places in the above-mentioned districts, the quantitative precipitation forecast stands at around 4-6mm per hour.

  • Very heavy rain forecast for few places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts during the hours of 2-6 pm.
  • Places in Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts may see a very insignificant amount of rainfall.
  • Around 1mm per hour rainfall is predicted for many places in Cuttack district during the evening hours tomorrow.

Nov 22 (Monday): IMD model predicts rainfall at many places in Keonjhar, Sundargarh districts. Rain will occur at few places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada districts during the evening hours.

Nov 23 (Tuesday): Light rainfall is predicted at some places in the districts of the south coastal region -from Ganjam to Puri during the evening hours. As per the IMD model, some places in the districts of Cuttack, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Gajapati may witness light drizzle.

Capital Weather

As per model forecasts, the skies of Odisha's Capital City will remain partly cloudy till Nov 25. Though there is no rain forecast for tomorrow, the City may record a good shower during the afternoon hours on Monday (Nov 22) and very little rain on Nov 23, shows the IMD model data.

With rain bidding adieu to the Capital City in the next 78 hours, the wintry weather will set in from Nov 27 (by next weekend) when the nighttime temperature is going to drop to around 16 deg C.

As per the NCEP forecast, the minimum temperature in the Capital City will hover at around 14-15 deg C till December 6.

Winter Returns

ECMWF predicts a drop in minimum temperature to around 12 deg C on Nov 29 at many places in northern Odisha, especially in Keonjhar. Koraput, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh may record a minimum temperature of 14 deg C.

The mercury is predicted to slide down to around 13 deg C in the whole of western and southern Odisha in the first week of December.
