With Odisha predicted to receive rainfall from tomorrow evening, winter is unlikely to return to the State till January 19. No forecast of a chilly new year in the State.
As per the IMD and NCEP forecast, from the evening of December 29, districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, parts of Bargarh and Keonjhar will receive an accumulated rainfall of 20 mm. All other western districts and Kandhamal will see very light drizzle. The rainfall will start in the evening and continue till midnight.
The forecast says this rainfall in Odisha on Dec 29 will be due to western disturbance induced cyclonic circulation that will move from the northwest towards Bihar, Jharkhand and northern West Bengal.
The NCEP forecast predicts 0.69 mm rainfall in the State Capital Bhubaneswar in the nights hours on Dec 29. On the new year day, the minimum temperature in the State Capital will be over 16 deg C.
Chilly New Year?
Even as central India will see the mercury dropping to around 8 deg C on Jan 1, 2022, Odisha is unlikely to record any plunge. The minimum temperature in the State will hover at around 13-16 deg C, predicts the ACCESS-G3 model.
As per the model prediction, the minimum temperature in northwest India may plummet to 6 deg C on Jan 3, 2022. The IITM MME predicts minimum temperature in northwest, north and central India to hover between 4-11 deg C till Jan 9, 2022.
Odisha Weather In New Year
As per the NCEP and IITM MME, the winter is unlikely to return to Odisha till Jan 19, 2022. The minimum temperature in coastal areas to hover between 13-18 deg C, whereas it will remain in the range of 10-18 deg C in the interior and western Odisha.
The IITM MME forecast predicts above-normal rainfall in Odisha till January 19, 2022. IMD predicts rains induced by a fresh western disturbance on and around Jan 5-9.
Capital Weather
The models predict the minimum temperature in the Capital City hovering between 15-19 deg C during the month of January 2022. There will be no cold wave-like conditions till January 19, says IITM MME. Other global models predict no return of cold wave till January end.
