2021 was the second year that somehow got ruined owing to the ongoing COVID pandemic. After a brief gap of around a year, the entertainment industry became active with a renewed hope for a normal state. While theatres remained closed in all parts of the country, the OTT (Over The Top) platform took over the business engaging a mass of audience in their comfort confines. While the craze for the silver screen continues unabatedly, many have found OTT releases as a convenient and less expensive alternative.
Several well-known actors this year were found getting hitched to the OTT releases with compelling content and a better platform. Apart from that, many more actors across the Indian Film Industry were found hitting the headlines for various reasons.

Controversies/Breakups/Divorce
Naga Chaitanya- Samantha Ruth Prabhu
The most disheartening announcement from the glamour industry in 2021 was the splitting of star couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Both the actors from the South film industry were constantly hitting the headlines much before the big announcement. Apart from that, both of the actors were in discussion for their Bollywood debut with Lal Singh Chadha and The Family Man Season 2, respectively.
Aamir Khan- Kiran Rao
Bollywood's Mr Perfection Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao also made an official announcement of splitting this year. At first, Khan had married Reena Dutta and ended the relationship after 15 years in 2002. He married Kiran in 2005 and the 'picture-perfect' life ended in 2021. Khan has 2 children from Reena and one from Kiran.
Shah Rukh Khan- Aryan Khan
One of the most highlighted cases of 2021 for the BTown was the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan's elder son Aryan in a drugs-on-cruise case. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials arrested Aryan along with several others and the star-kid spent 22 days in jail before finally walking out on October 30.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hit the headlines in the ending month of the year after she was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to join probe in connection with Panama papers leak case for alleged FEMA violation.
Sushmita Sen
Actress Sushmita Sen announced her breakup with boyfriend Rohman Shawl in December. The couple had reportedly been dating for about three years. She also was in the headline for making a comeback to mainstream acting after around a decade with series Aarya that was released on Disney + Hotstar in 2020 and the show's second season was out in December 2021.

Yash
Kannada Actor Yash, dubbed as Rocking Star is in the headline since the release of KGF Chapter 1 in 2018. The movie became an all-time blockbuster with which the actor grabbed the attention of movie lovers across the world. The sequel was scheduled to release in 2021 which was later postponed by the makers owing to the prevailing pandemic situation. KGF: Chapter 2 is among the highly anticipated movies scheduled to release on April 14, 2022.
Prabhas
Tollywood star or better referred to as Baahubali ruled the headline with the back-to-back announcements of his upcoming flicks. The recent release of Radhe Shyam teaser and trailer has left fans in shock. Prabhas will be seen opposite Pooja Hegde in Radhe Shyam which is scheduled to release on January 14.
Ram Charan, Jr NTR
Tollywood actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR have teamed up with Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt for the most-awaited action-packed movie RRR. Helmed by south Ace director SS Rajamouli, RRR is scheduled to release on January 7.
Vijay Deverakonda
‘Liger’ produced under the banner of Dharma Productions stars Tollywood actor Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday along with Boxing ace Mike Tyson. Liger is helmed by Puri Jagannadh and its release date is locked for August 25 next year.
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt
Bollywood lovebirds Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are hitting the headline since the announcement of Brahmastra. The couple is twining on screen for the first time. Apart from Alia and Ranbir, Millennium star Amitabh Bachchan and Tollywood King Nagarjuna will be seen as prominent characters.
New Releases
Akshay Kumar
Bollywood action king Akshay Kumar bounced back with a roar with Suryavanshi as soon as the theatres were thrown open after a long break. The movie went on to become one of the most entertaining flicks of the year with the special appearances of Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.
Allu Arjun- Rashmika Mandanna
Pushpa: The Rise marked the debut of Tollywood Icon star Allu Arjun and National crush Rashmika Mandanna in the pan-India category. Pushpa garnered high appreciation from movie lovers across the country. The sequel is also in queue and anticipation among fans is counting high.
Ranveer Singh- Deepika Padukone
Based on the historic incident of India winning the ICC world cup title in 1983 and cricket legend Kapil Dev's life, 83 was the talk of the town. Ranveer Singh nailed the character of the legend and Deepika Padukone also garnered much appreciation by portraying the character of Kapil's wife.
Suriya
South actor Suriya's Jai Bhim was a blockbuster and the actor along with the movie plot grabbed the attention of cine critics and movie lovers. Jai Bhim received accolades from critics and audiences. The Tamil actor landed in controversy and also received death threats following the movie's release.

Tadap marked the debut of Bollywood's Anna Suniel Shetty's son Ahan Shetty. The action movie also starred Tara Sutaria in the lead. Ahan garnered much appreciation from different quarters for his debut performance.
