Indian Film Industry is in a thrilling race to cross the golden mark of Rs 1000 crore. Movies like Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Jawan, Pathaan and Kalki 2898 AD have already achieved this glorious feat. These movies were made at a whopping budget and the makers made their recovery successfully and made massive profits. However, what would be filmmakers' reaction after a film produced at a staggering budget fails at the box office? What if it is Rs 1200 crore?

Though sounds surprising, around 20 years back the producers, who bankrolled a movie, went bankrupt. The movie having an ensemble cast bombed at the box office and the makers suffered a loss of a staggering Rs 1200 crore.
Well, it is not an Indian movie.
2005's American adventure movie Sahara, helmed by Breck Eisner is regarded as the biggest FLOP movie in history. Even though big stars like Matthew McConaughey, Steve John, and Penelope Cruz played key roles in the Hollywood movie, they failed to impress the audience.
Reportedly, the movie was made at a whopping budget of $240 million and it was able to recover only $120 million.

The makers had pinned high hopes on the movie and expected a huge return. However, the movie failed to show its magic at the box office and later on got enrolled in the list of flop films.

A report by NDTV stated that the makers had lost a whopping amount of Rs 1200 crore. The makers were left devastated after the movie's debacle.
The performance of the movie was so disappointing that its rating on IMDb dropped down to fifth place in the list of biggest flops in the history of films.
Even Times Magazine in its report stated Sahara as the biggest flop film.
