PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

At the Met Gala in New York, Shah Rukh Khan faced a foreign press snub, prompting outrage. Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee defended his stature live. Fans criticised this disrespect.

Shah Rukh Khan

Dubbed the "King of Bollywood", Shah Rukh Khan has built an illustrious three-decade career, commanding not just box office dominance but the hearts of millions globally. However, during his grand Met Gala debut in New York, the superstar faced an unexpected snub from sections of the foreign press, leading to widespread backlash from his devoted fanbase.

“Who Are You?”: A Question That Sparked Outrage

The moment that sparked fan fury came when a foreign journalist reportedly asked Khan, "Who are you?", as he walked the red carpet. The incident was compounded by the Vogue livestream, where hosts Ego Nwodim and Teyana Taylor failed to acknowledge the actor’s stature, prompting designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee to step in live and explain SRK’s global influence.

Fans took to social media, criticising the lack of awareness and calling it disrespectful treatment of a global icon.

A Humbling Throwback From 2012

Ironically, the incident mirrors a moment Shah Rukh himself joked about over a decade ago during a speech at Yale University in 2012. Speaking with his signature wit, Khan said:

“Whenever I start getting too arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. We were detained at the airport for an hour and a half. It was nice, and it always happens.”

He humorously recounted being questioned about his height and skin colour, quipping, “They ask how tall I am. I lie—five feet ten. Next time I’ll be more adventurous. What colour are you? I’ll say white.”

What’s Next for SRK

On the work front, Shah Rukh is preparing for his next release, King, directed by Siddharth Anand, with whom he previously delivered the blockbuster Pathaan. That film marked Khan’s triumphant comeback, raking in over Rs 1,050 crore worldwide.

King will also feature Suhana Khan, making her big-screen debut, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. The action drama is set to begin filming later this year and is already generating massive buzz.
