When Ileana D'Cruz made sensational comment on casting couch, sexual harassment in film industry

Ileana D’Cruz has been doing less movies for a long time now. Even though she could not make it big in Bollywood she always had a decent following and her fans still miss her a lot. Be it Barfi or Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, the audience warmed up to the charm of Ileana D’Cruz whenever she was on the big screen. A complete outsider, she once said that she was never too desperate to work in movies and that can be one reason why she never succumbed to any casting couch in the film industry.

But a few years ago she did make some sensational comments on the casting couch and how it is an integral part of the film industry in India.

When Ileana D’Cruz opened up about casting couch

During 2018 when the #MeTooMovement was at its peak, many actresses and celebrities opened up about the harassment that an aspiring actress has to face from the casting couch. Ileana D’Cruz said, “It might sound cowardly, but I agree that if one speaks out about the casting couch, it will end their career."

The actress narrated her experience related to the casting couch in the South film industry. Ileana said, “Years ago, a junior artiste down South, who was being propositioned by a big producer, sought my advice on how to deal with it. I told her that it was something that I couldn't decide for her. It is her decision and nobody could force it on her. Many people have done it and it's up to her whether she wants to go ahead and do it or not. As far as exploitation and harassment is concerned, I wouldn't stand for it."

Ileana D’Cruz also said that it is tough to prove allegations when they are against an A-listed actor and would require support from multiple influential people to take action against him. She added, “Actors in this country are worshipped. So it will take many voices for people to acknowledge that huge stars could have such an ugly side."
