Deepika Padukone
Bollywood icon Deepika Padukone may be known today for her poise, talent, and global fame, but like many of us, she too had her share of childhood mischief—and punishments.
In a throwback anecdote, the actress revealed how her father, legendary badminton player Prakash Padukone, used to discipline her in a rather unique way during her early years.
During an earlier appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Deepika opened up about a memorable punishment from her childhood. Recounting life in her old apartment, she described a long kitchen space that also had a store room with a single light—controlled from the outside.
“So whenever I misbehaved with my parents or didn’t do my homework properly, I was locked inside the store room. The light switch for it was outside, so my father would lock me inside and switch off the light,” Deepika shared. The moment, though frightening at the time, clearly left a lasting impression and shaped part of the discipline she carries even today.
Deepika has often spoken about the influence her father has had on her, both personally and professionally. At the Forbes Summit in Abu Dhabi, she revealed a life lesson he once shared: “My father told me that whatever you do, people remember you for the human being that you were. So, for me, whatever I do, I want to be remembered for the human being that I was.”
In September 2024, Deepika and her husband Ranveer Singh welcomed their daughter, Dua Padukone Singh. Announcing her birth on social media, the couple wrote:
“Dua Padukone Singh – ‘Dua’: meaning a Prayer. Because She is the Answer to our Prayers. Our hearts are filled with Love & Gratitude.”
They also shared a touching photo of baby Dua’s tiny feet, receiving love from fans across the world.
Deepika, who made her debut in Om Shanti Om, quickly rose to stardom and later earned critical acclaim for her performances in films like Piku, Padmaavat, and Chhapaak. Most recently, she appeared in Singham Again as DCP Shakti Shetty. While she hasn’t officially announced her next project after becoming a mother, industry speculation hints at a possible return in Kalki 2.
